***PLEASE NOTE***

This course is for staff and volunteers of Midlothian Council LLE and Partner agencies.

This course will focus on the following themes:

• What do we mean by community engagement?

• Community engagement and the Equality Duty

• How do we promote community representation in ways that take account of diversity and population change.

• How do we address the challenges and overcome barriers to involvement

• Consider participatory approaches to community engagement and utilising local resources.

Further Information

Courses run by LLE are open to all staff from our partner agencies where indicated, although spaces may be limited. Most courses are free to access, unless specified, non-attendance charges may apply if bookings are not cancelled.

A Non attendance fee of £25 will be charged where someone fails to turn up without cancelling unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Courses run by partner organisations and other local authorities are included in this booklet for information but cannot be booked via Midlothian Council LLE.

All requests for places must be made to the relevant organising body. LLE staff must first seek permission from their line manager to attend (see below).

How to Book a Place on a Course:

For LLE staff and volunteers:

1. Seek approval from your Line Manager to attend.

2. Once approved, complete training application form and book a place on course.

3. For internal courses, you will receive a confirmation email if you have a place, further information about the course and details of how to cancel.

4. After you have attended the course you should complete part 2 of the booking form and discuss this with your Line Manager at your supervision session.

LLE staff and volunteers please note:

You must have approval from your Line Manager to attend all training courses. If your attendance is approved, LLE will cover the cost of the training, where applicable. Sessional staff may be paid for their time to attend courses, usually where the course is deemed to be essential or mandatory for the delivery of the service e.g. Child Protection Training. Payment is only made for the actual hours worked and does not include lunch/dinner breaks.
