Equalities training - best practice working with and for older LGBT people
Tue 6 December 2016, 10:00 – 13:00
Age UK London working in partnership with Opening Doors London invites you to attend this workshop that is aimed at members, volunteers and staff of groups and organisations across London that work with and for older people.
The training course aims to develop your staff’s understanding of what makes appropriate and inclusive services for older LGBT* people and also to enable staff to develop understanding, passion and compassion for LGBT+ older people
Here is a brief outline of what this Working with Older LGBT People - Equality & Best Practice training session will cover:
1) Assumptions –some common assumptions and myths, in order to understand how these can create barriers to truly inclusive service provision and cause older LGBT* people to be wary of accessing essential care services.
2) The historical context – (legislative & social) through which older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people have lived their lives, and an increased understanding of the resulting marginalisation, mistrust and fear this has created for many.
3) Equality Act 2010 – participants will be provided with the framework of protection and rights provided by current equalities legislation and the Care Act
4) Best Practice Guidance –explore practical ways of ensuring services are truly inclusive.
