Event Details

This session is two sessions in one!

Equality and diversity

In this session we will look beyond festivals and different religions. We will explore different family structures and backgrounds, will discuss what individual needs of children might be and suggest useful resources that you might want to include in your practice.

Learning objectives:

  • To understand the Equality act and the implications to you and your setting
  • Look into the range of new and emerging communities and the associating issues
  • To expand knowledge on current diversity topics and relate it to practice
  • To ensure inclusion in your planning activities
  • Explore Unconscious Bias and practical strategies for challenging it
  • Look at resources to include in your setting.

Risky Play

If someone told you to jump out of a window, would you do it? I'm sure the answer would be no, but why? As adults we have the ability to assess this risk to be too high and would undoubtably lead to significant injury or death. Risks are all around us and adults manage these on a daily basis. Children must learn this potential lifesaving skill to enable them to manage the risks they take during their lifetime. This training will explore what risky play means in the Early Years, the role of the adult to support and manage risky play successfully, and so much more!

Objectives:

  • Understand what risky play is
  • Explore the different categories of risky play
  • Understand the role of the adult to support risky play
  • To be confident to overcome the barriers and challenges.
  • To identify risky play within policy documents and theories.
