Equality, Diversity & Belonging in 21st Century Britain
Wed 19 October 2016, 18:00 – 20:00 BST
Britain today is experiencing major social change and a range of new difficulties: EU membership & Brexit; the pressures of austerity; questions over devolution and identity; the challenges of globalisation and migration; and the threat of terrorism. The strains and tensions around issues of diversity, equality and belonging in Britain in this new global order of uncertainty and insecurity remain acute.
The journalist, author and political commentator Yasmin Alibhai-Brown offers her own searching personal insight into how we might address such issues in 21st century Britain – and where exactly questions of gender equality fit into this equation. Yasmin assesses the state of Britain today as a complex multi-faith, multi-cultural pluralist society facing new dilemmas. Her presentation will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.
