The Equally Safe in Practice (ESiP) new learning e-modules have now been launched and are available to be rolled out across public sector organisations.

The learning aims to increase basic knowledge around core concepts on gender and violence against women and to build a shared understanding of how everyone can make workplace safer and more equal.

The modules are interactive learning tools, with quizzes, animations, video and audio features, all designed to make learning interesting and adhere to different learning styles.

After a successful Equally Safe in Practice Framework pilot, the learning is now available to be embedded into learning and development programmes across teams, organisations and local areas.

Equally Safe in Practice (ESiP) team are hosting a series of information sessions to share more about how the modules can be accessed and embedded, and to answer any questions on the roll-out and other aspects of the ESiP Framework.

Creating a shared understanding

It is important that everyone has a shared understanding that violence against women and girls (VAWG) is a pervasive cause and consequence of gender inequality, the impact it has on survivors; the scale of the problem in Scotland, and the risk factors which increase vulnerability to abuse of women and girls.  

The escalating cost of living crisis runs the risk of entrenching inequality even more deeply in Scotland. There continues to be an urgent need to take steps to advance gender equality, and act in ways that both prevent and adequately respond to the violence and abuse that impacts so disproportionately on the lives of women, children and young people. 

Everyone has a Role to Play

The Equally Safe in Practice Framework offers an overarching structure for workforce training and development that is tailored to the responsibility levels of the workforce. The aim is to deepen an understanding that ending VAWG is everyone’s business, and these issues are relevant to us all. The learning aims to ensure individuals understand their role in tackling inequality and VAWG, no matter their type of work, role or previous experiences with the topics.

What learning is available now?

The three learning modules form part of the first level of the ESiP Framework, and encompasses basic knowledge and skills for workers across all levels. This level of learning was successfully piloted in seven local councils between 2021-2. The learning includes the gateway e- module ‘Together for Gender Equality’, followed by ‘Understanding Domestic Abuse’ and ‘Understanding Sexual Violence’, which form the basis, and foundation level of the workforce development framework.

Come along to one of our drop-in sessions in hosted throughout April and May 2023 to find out more about the ESiP Framework, how the learning can be picked up and different ways it can be embedded into existing learning and development programmes and training plans.
