Equine Pain or behaviour ...can we tell the difference?
Thu 20 October 2016, 19:30 – 21:30 BST
Pain or behaviour?
There are many equine behaviours that can leave us scratching our heads ....bucking, rearing, napping, refusing, girthing and mounting problems, problems with the farrier ...
We know that some of these behaviours will have some sort of underlying pain ...low grade lameness, back pain, gastic pain - but finding out exactly what the problem is and whether it is significant is often a challenge.
Janine Davies is an experienced equine vet who specialises in equine training and behaviour. She will talk us through a range of behavioural cases that she has worked with, and discuss how she suspects an underlying painful condition and what her approach is.
Cheltenham Equine Vet's Anna Gorman will talk us through the veterinary approach to investigating horses with painful conditions which are difficult to identify at first sight: kissing spines, dental issues, gastric ulcers ...to name a few!!
