Event description

Description

If you have ever wanted to know 1) what is your position in the world as a believer or 2) learn more about how having a relationship with the Holy Spirit will change your life dynamically, you need to sign up for Term 1 and if you wish to 1) grasp an understanding of 75% of the Bible; i.e. the Old Testament as well as 2) how to be a great leader by leading yourself first, Term 2 is definitely for you.
Why not sign up for all 4 modules to grow in Christ over Monday evenings with fellow curious students? Read on for more details.

TERM 1: 25 September to 4 December 2017 (Term 1 Break: 30 October 2017)

Session 1 - 19:30 - 20:30
Ephesians For You

The Zondervan Bible Commentary describes the book of Ephesians as the letter which “forms a fitting crown to the writings of Paul, the apostle of the Gentiles”. This relatively shortly letter is rich in theology and full of practical in application.

The first 3 chapters deal with the “position” of the believer. Among other things, we’ll unpack as Christians how we are blessed and our identity in Christ. We’ll also look at the question of pre-destination and freedom of choice.

We will also study the practical application Paul describes in chapters 4-6. This includes how we should live out our lives in the church, in society, in the home, and at work. This practical application extends to ways we can stand strong in the face of difficulty and challenge.

The book of Ephesians is for everyone, and it’s for you!

Session 2 - 20:40 - 21:30
The Ministry Of The Holy Spirit

The purpose of this course is to lead people to a place where they can experience the Person, the power and the work of the Holy Spirit in a whole new way in them and through them. In other words, how does our relationship with the Holy Spirit dynamically affect our lives?

Much of the content will centre around Jesus’ teaching on the Holy Spirit, from John’s gospel, when he was preparing the disciples for His departure by describing the promised Holy Spirit. We’ll study the many attributes of the Holy Spirit, as well of providing space to experience His blessing and filling afresh.

TERM 2: 15 January 2018 to 26 March 2018 (Term 2 Break: 19 February 2017)

Session 1 - 19:30 - 20:30
Understanding the Old Testament

The Old Testament can appear to be somewhat daunting. After all, it covers 75% of the whole Bible. It's 39 books span over 2000 years of history, were written by a variety of different authors and include many different types of literature. And it doesn’t always flow in chronological order. So, it's no surprise that many people wonder how it all fits together! In fact, many people simply consign it to the “too hard” basket. This 10-session course will help people to grasp the overall message of Scripture by providing a concise overview of volume to give context and meaning.

As David Pawson puts it "Far from being a dry theological textbook, the Old Testament is a vibrant story of God's redeeming work in the lives of his people".

Session 2 - 20:40 - 21:30
Everyday Leadership & Ministry Development

This course is for everyone, even if you don’t carry a job title in the market place or in church that carries the word (or suggests) “leader”. The truth is, everyone is a leader. For a start, we all should lead ourselves! Bill Hybels, the founding pastor of Willow Creek church says that the “toughest
management challenge is always yourself”.

Great leadership always begins with self- leadership. Because at the centre of leadership is the person who, more than anything else makes the difference. Leadership success or failure begins with how the leader approaches self-leadership.

The sessions will carry practical application, with some transferable skills which you’ll find valuable in the marketplace and in church.

There will be some specific teaching on ministry development too; for example, how to prepare and deliver a short inspiration.

So, this course is for everyone! It will especially help emerging leaders, aspiring leaders, current leaders whatever your age or experience.
