About this event

Charity & Causes • Environment

Join us for a hands-on experience dissecting owl pellets and revealing the remains of mammal species hidden within.

Owls swallow their prey whole, but cannot digest all parts of the animal. Instead, a pellet of bones, fur and other undigestible material is formed in their gizzard and regurgitated out. We can use this to discover which species they have been eating, and this can give us an insight into the current status of local mammal communities.

We will uncover the secrets we can learn from their diets and understand how to identify and record what we find to aid conservation efforts.
