Description

Chilean photographer Luis Weinstein presents the work of his photobook Es lo que hay [That’s the way things are] + Q&A with Carlos Reyes-Manzo

Es lo que hay is divided into four chapter. The book registers everyday life in Chile under the Pinochet dictatorship. Chapter 1, “Esto ha sido” documents the whole period from the coup d’état to the reestablishment of democracy. Chapter 2, “Se vende ilusiones” is a fictional account based on a short story. Chapter 3, “Apuntes del Edén” deals with different forms of communal and family occupation of territory presented together: one reportage focuses on a popular beach and a summer day camp, photographed for a number of years; the other follows a group of “pobladores” (settlers) as they occupy a piece of land and start urbanizing the area and turning it into a new village. Finally, chapter 4, “Toque de queda” locates in urban interstices preserved by the night the possibility of surviving a dark period in the country’s history.

The presentation will be followed by a Q & A session between the author and Carlos Reyes Manzo
