Visit to UKPN – Smarter Network Storage

As part of the Smarter Network Storage project, UKPN has undertaken a number of studies associated with the commercial and regulatory framework associated with energy storage.
UKPN intends to submit its report on their proposed changes to the regulatory and licensing regime in September 2015 to OFGEM. The staff of UKPN wish to discuss their findings and recommendations with the members of the Electricity Storage Network before finalizing the report and presenting it to OFGEM.

10.30 a.m. Regulatory and licensing issues arising from the Smarter Network Storage project.
Topics to be covered:
Classification of storage.
Interaction with unbundling and distribution business licence requirements.
Treatment under climate change, renewable and low carbon initiatives.
Treatment under distribution connection and charging arrangements.
Business rates treatment.
Interdependence between options.
Recommendations and action plan.
14:00 p.m. Optional tour of the 6 MW, 10 MWh Smarter Network Storage project
15:00 p.m. Second tour of the project.
The visit will be limited to one attendee per member company. The length of the tour will depend on total numbers attending. Members should allow approximately 1 hour for the tour.
