ESRC Festival of Social Science 2016 - Using the WISERD DataPortal to map c...
Location: WISERD, 46 Park Place, Cardiff, CF10 3BB
Chair: Dr. Scott Orford
We will put on a demonstration of the WISERD DataPortal (WDP) http://data.wiserd.ac.uk/dataportal/ and show how it can be used by third sector organisations for Civil Society for mapping social and economic data made freely available as data feeds by UK and Welsh Governments. The FSS demonstration will illustrate the capability of the WDP Mapping Service with the participation of an exemplar Civil Society organisation (such as Shelter Cymru, Home Start or affiliate of Wales Council for Voluntary Action). It will be an afternoon event that will engage non-academic stakeholders, specifically, Civil Society users and also policy makers. It will be followed by a question and answer session where attendees will be able to provide feedback on the Data Portal Mapping Service and what further features/data they would like to see included to better meet their needs. It will thus represent part of our wider engagement activities with Civil Society organisations and build on existing links to further the development of the Portal as a tool for Civil Society researchers.
The demonstration will also be available as a live webcast for those Civil Society members who cannot make the meeting and they will be able to join in the Q&A session via twitter. The event will have a legacy for the webcast will be recorded and be available on the WISERD website www.wiserd.ac.uk
