Then this workshop is for you!

Staff in supporting roles often face particular challenges in interactions with patients and their families. This interactive workshop will support you in developing specific skills that will help in your day-to-day work. It will build on existing skills and knowledge using real-life examples, interactive exercises and demonstrations.

What will you learn

  • Tips for working with people in distressing or difficult situations.
  • How distress can be conveyed a exploring skills and strategies for responding to emotional reactions and/or questions.
  • Key communication skills for conveying difficult information (e.g. cancelled appointment), including active listening.

Learning Objective

The team will use a variety of methods to build on your skills and experience through discussion and a range of activities. This will include the opportunity to see skills in action using a live demonstration.

Suitable for

Front line health and social care staff, booking clerks, medical secretaries, ward/clinic staff, pharmacy staff, receptionists. If you speak with patients or their families, then this workshop is for you.

Booking Terms & Conditions

  • Your place will only be confirmed when The Christie receives payment or the production of an official purchase order. Please DO NOT book a place unless you have approval from your manager AND confirmation that your trust are willing to pay your delegate fees.
  • Once your place is confirmed, you will be notified by email. Please ensure that we hold a valid email address and mobile contact number for you.
  • Joining instructions will be sent via email two to four weeks before the course commences.
  • Payment must be made before the course commences. We reserve the right to cancel a booking in the case of non-receipt of payment prior to the first day of the course.
  • Maguire cannot be held responsible for any failure of delegates’ equipment or internet connection. We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity for a test call prior to the workshop (contact the-christie.maguire.unit@nhs.net to arrange this).
  • In the event of a cancellation: A charge of 25% of the course fee will be made for cancellations up to 6 weeks prior to the workshop date; a charge of 50% of the course fee will be made between 4 and 6 weeks prior to the workshop; no refund will be given for cancellation within 4 weeks of the workshop; suitable replacement delegates will be accepted up to 3 days prior to the course.
