This seminar will provide practitioners with an overview of how to ensure that civil legal aid and advice and assistance cover are adequately in place. There will be discussion of how to maximize income and ensure you get paid for the work you do!

OBJECTIVES

This seminar will cover:

  • An overview of how to apply for civil advice and assistance, decide who is eligible, use templates and apply for increases
  • What is ABWOR and in what type of cases does it apply?
  • A&A and ABOWR Accounts
  • An overview of civil legal aid, who is eligible, what are the statutory tests and how to deal with urgent cases
  • Post certificate work including sanctions, extensions and cost case limits .
  • Civil legal aid accounts
  • A concluding Question and Answers session

PARTICIPANTS

This basic seminar is aimed at any solicitors, trainees and paralegals that use civil legal aid and/or advice and assistance, any practitioners who are considering beginning legal aid work and unsure of how to do so.

The speakers are Eileen Grant, Assistant Manager Accounts and Helen Bell, Solicitor of the Scottish Legal Aid Board.
