Essential Oracy for Primary Teachers
Overview
Oracy (sometimes referred to as Spoken Language) is at the heart of high-quality teaching and learning. In this course we explore just what is meant by oracy and how it can be harnessed to ensure that all pupils learn to speak and learn through spoken language.
Course objectives
- Explore the theoretical background about how children learn to talk
- Consider how to promote talk as a pedagogical tool
- Consider the importance of active learning including storytelling, drama and role play as tools for learning
Whilst Spoken Language appears in the National Curriculum Programme of Study for English, it is essential for learning across the curriculum; meaning that this course is of interest for all teachers in KS1 and KS2.
Handouts and resources are provided electronically and colleagues are encouraged to bring their laptop or electronic device to annotate their handouts as the session is delivered.
