Essentials 2 – Practical management.
This one day workshop has been designed for GSLs and DESCs to support them in the practical elements of management within their role.
It complements the GSL Essentials – an induction for new GSLs and DESC Essentials - an induction for new DESCs.
This one day workshops follows on from the Essentials Induction days held in November and March within the Region. It is highly recommended that you attend an Essentials Induction day prior to this Practical day.
The day will cover-
- Having more fun in our Scouting
- Managing your team and reviews
- Complaints - dealing with them and preventing them
- Difficult conversations leading into Difficult reviews
- Growth and Development
The day also includes free time to enable you to chat and network with other DESCs & GSL’s from across the East Midlands.
There will also be an opportunity to chat to the Regional Services Team who can offer support and advice on all aspects of recruitment and development within Scouting. There will also be a resource area for you to obtain samples of free resources that are available.
The day will begin with coffee and registration from 8:30am with a prompt 9:00am start. We expect the day to end at approx 4:30pm.

The event is free to attend and lunch and all refreshments are provided.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
The event is to be held at Lindum Sports Association St Giles Avenue, Wragby Road, Lincoln. LN2 4PE
Dress code: This is an informal workshop so uniform is not needed. We would suggest smart casual clothing.
Bring: You may bring an iPad or tablet if you prefer to make notes in this manner, pens and paper will be provided along with any materials you will need for the day.
Having attended a previous Essentials day, you will already have a copy of GSL or DESC Essentials and may bring this with you, if you wish.
Refreshments: Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits will be available during the day.
Lunch: Lunch is provided for you free of charge

The Scout Association – East Midlands Regional Services Team
The main focus of the Regional Services Team (RST) is the development and growth of Scouting in local communities.
The service covers the five Scout Counties that make up the East Midlands Region; Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.
