1. Fire Safety and Legislation Update.

The current status of legislation and guidance encompasses a detailed overview of the laws applicable in various settings, including workplaces, homes and residential accommodations. It highlights any pertinent regulations governing fire safety and incidents. Additionally, it includes relevant data sourced from the Home Office on GOV.UK, covering fire incidents, prevailing trends and current hot topics in fire safety management.

2. Fire Risk Assessment Techniques

This section covers various methods for assessing fire risks in different environments. It emphasises the importance of conducting a thorough fire risk assessment, which is essential for ensuring safety and preventing potential hazards. Additionally, it discusses the complementary DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) risk assessment techniques that help identify and mitigate risks associated with dangerous substances. Finally, it highlights the significance of identifying competency in assessing these risks, ensuring that qualified individuals perform the evaluations to maintain compliance with safety regulations.

3. Construction Sector Fire Safety

The consequences of fire disasters can be severe, impacting lives, property, and the environment. Effective fire investigation techniques are key for understanding the causes and preventing future incidents. Regular repair and maintenance of buildings enhance their resilience against fire threats, ensuring safety for inhabitants. Engaging contractors in fire safety protocols is essential for fostering a culture of safety on construction sites. Designing for fire safety involves incorporating features that minimize fire risks and facilitate safe evacuation. Additionally, the innovation of lithium-ion and hydrogen-powered site vehicles presents new challenges and opportunities for enhancing fire safety in various operational environments.

4. Battery and ELV inc charging points/ Maintenance

Public charging points are essential facilities for electric vehicles (EVs) located in workplaces and commercial areas, ensuring convenient access for employees and customers. Maintenance of these charging stations is critical to ensure their reliability and efficiency. Additionally, raising awareness about the availability and benefits of public charging points is vital for encouraging EV adoption. For private setup, domestic EV charging arrangements offer homeowners the ability to charge their vehicles conveniently at home. It's important to stay informed about relevant industry sector legislation, as well as advice and guidance, to ensure compliance and optimal use of these EV charging services.

This event supports the IOSH strategy by helping health and safety professionals and business owners gain essential fire safety knowledge and skills, leading to safer workplaces and communities. It includes updates on legislation, fire risk assessment techniques, best practices in construction fire safety and new topics like electric vehicle charging and battery safety. This course helps improve skills, encourages ongoing learning and prepares members for future challenges. Attendees will learn about current laws and best practices, enabling them to manage safety in their organisations effectively.
