PART OF ESTUARY 2016 - Sixteen days of art, literature, music and film curated in response to the spectacular Thames Estuary. An eclectic programme of exhibitions, performance, conference and events pulls together powerful themes resonant to the place, its landscape, and communities.
Chris Fenwick is Dr Feelgood band manager for over 40 years. From the early days busking outside pubs on Canvey Island to sell-out tours and a number one album...throughout their journey from the Thames Estuary marshlands to the hearts of R n B fans worldwide, one man has maintained the helm and navigated the band through the notoriously treacherous waters of the music industry.
Prior to his appearance at Sound of the Thames Delta, you can also join him on a guided walk around Canvey Island on Friday 30 September 10am-1pm.
Starting at Canvey Island Lobster Smack pub, Chris will take you on a walk around the island, along the sea wall, and talk about places linked to the history of Dr Feelgood's band, the island's industrial connections, the migration from East End, flooding of 1953, but also share his personal stories of growing up on Canvey and sailing from an early age...
The walk will finish at Canvey Heights – the perfect vantage point from which to see the whole island, juxtaposing the industrial Canvey, fishing boats of the old Leigh and seaside fun of Southend.
Free to attend, but booking is essential - register above.
