About this event

About Emma Carlisle
Emma Carlisle is a highly acclaimed illustrator and artist, living in Plymouth, UK. She graduated in 2011 from University of Plymouth with a First Class Hons in Illustration, and in 2014 from the Cambridge School of Art with an MA in Children's Book Illustration. In 2022, Emma's book What Do You See When You Look At A Tree? was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Prize. In 2015, her first book Lion Practice was nominated for the Kate Greenaway and the Klaus Flugge Prize.
In 2018, Emma returned to location drawing - developing new work exploring colour, experimental mark-making, and the landscape. This new direction saw her work branch into several different outlets including large abstract canvases as well as quick expressive observational studies. Since 2020, Emma has run a successful Patreon where she shares her tips and advice about her own practice as well as encouraging others to develop their own unique visual language.
