Eternal Benefits at the Quadrant in North Hull has been operating as a registered charity for 24 years. They are at the heart of a community that experiences deprivation, high unemployment and the social impacts of this with 3 major challenges of:
1. anti-social behaviour
2. a deepening sense of low aspiration
3. a lack of opportunity.
Eternal Benefits holds a Good Neighbour Fund that subsidises:
*Food support through the Food Larder.
*Pay as you like Café.
*Healthy & low-cost cooking courses.
*Cozy Corner (warm space)

*Children’s, youth, over 60’s, and internationals outings and events.
*Emergency help, i.e. lost purse, being burgled.
*Addressing anti-social behaviour.
*Community Cohesion.
*Gathering community members with an open-door policy to address community needs.

What will you be supporting?
There is a deepening sense of low aspiration due to a lack of employment and training, fears about future prosperity and ongoing cuts leave many dispirited in poverty, settling for the status quo and hopelessness. These issues contribute to boredom, drug abuse, alcoholism, crime and underage pregnancies affecting whole families, and the wider community. Many feel driven to making ends meet through drugs, shoplifting and door to door selling. Those with lower educational attainment struggle to express themselves and access help.
Aspirations and ambitions have become extremely limited. The result is third generation of families living on benefits perpetuating cycles of poverty. Cultural, sporting and community facilities in the local vicinity or opportunities for people to gain confidence and life skills are very few. There is also a genuine concern over a lack of safe outdoor space for children to gather and play. North Hull’s isolation from the city centre and high travel costs compound this sense of being cut off and lacking opportunity and aspiration. This has such negative impacts on the children and young people we know, who are among the poorest 5% of children in England (Income deprivation affecting children 2019). This deprivation has contributed to low educational achievement, child, obesity, a poor living environment and increased crime.
Older people are also affected by fewer opportunities with less to participate in locally except for our activities.
Eternal Benefits Team makeup
We employ 6 part-time people (5 are local residents) totalling 90 hours per week, all paid at the Living Wage.
On average we will have 20 additional local Volunteers.
