Event description

Description

This is the second of a series of Ethical Craft workshops and events, organised by Freeweaver Saori Studio and the Khadi Initiative, taking place at Craft Central this Spring.

Khadi cotton spinning

Bring your your own Charkha or use one that of the Freeweaver Charkhas. Khadi rolag bundles will be available for sale, at £7,50 per bundle.

Starting with a number of events dedicated to spinning cotton on Indian book Charkhas we will explore the history of the Khadi movement and learn to use the Charkha wheel to spin our own organic cotton. The event will be led by Asha Buch. As the workshops progress later in the year, we will also experiment with natural dyes and hand weaving on Japanese Saori looms.

A number of floorlooms will be available to spin your hand spun cotton into cloth for an hour after the session.

While you are there, please enjoy the Japanese Textiles and Craft Festival happening at the same location
