Ethics is not just about “big decisions”: it happens in every interaction.

This session offers a grounded, reflective approach to ethics in real life, moving beyond abstract codes to the everyday dilemmas that volunteers, staff, and informal carers face: “Should I intervene?” “Do I break a confidence?” “How do I balance choice with risk?”.

It introduces relational and care ethics and considers context, common ethical dilemmas, boundaries, consent, communication, and

Safeguarding vs. respecting autonomy.

This session is aimed at all of those organisations that are involved with health and social care in the community.

Lori Hall is a Health & Social Care lecturer & PhD researcher at Lincoln Bishop University, also an experienced practitioner with over 20 years in the health and social care industry from shop floor to management, clinical and educational. Her research brings together critical disability studies, anthropology, and participatory methods to explore friendship, belonging, and epistemic justice. Drawing on both academic theory and lived experience as a parent of a disabled child, her work centres the voices of those often left unheard, challenging structural liminality and reimagining inclusive public health research through creativity, collaboration, and care.
