Event description
Presentation-discussion on EU Competition law enforcement in digital markets: what is the impact of the proposals for a Digital Markets Act?

About this event

As convenors of the Edinburgh Commercial Law Reading Group at the University of Edinburgh, we are delighted to invite you to our new online event. The session will focus on the title: "EU Competition Law Enforcement in Digital Markets: What Is The Impact of The Proposals for A Digital Markets Act?".

Dr. Arianna Andreangeli will lead the session and present her recent paper described below:

Digital markets have posed novel and complex challenges for competition agencies in the EU. Avowedly introduced to eliminate obstacles to the functioning of the internal market, the proposals for an EU-wide "Digital Markets Act" seek to create a new preventive framework for protecting competition and safeguarding consumer welfare by subjecting large online platforms to several behavioural obligations. The EU Commission is responsible for overseeing the observance of these duties, for investigating infringements of these obligations. However, this new structure is set to work in parallel with the ordinary structure for the enforcement of the Union competition rules. What are the implications of the proposed status quo for due process, fairness and efficiency in competition enforcement?

The session will then be opened to participants to contribute to a discussion of the paper. This event will be held online over Zoom. The event is free to attend, but registration is required. The Zoom link to attend will be sent to those registered in advance of the meeting.
