Event description

Description

This course builds concepts learnt during 'EU Exit: the principles and practice of working with the EU'.

As the Government prepares for life outside the European Union (EU), negotiations are continuing to take place involving the policies, processes and legislation affected by the UK’s exit from the EU. Equipping civil servants with the skills and knowledge needed to support these negotiations and consequential legislative and administrative changes is therefore of critical importance.

Improving your knowledge in this area will allow you to work more efficiently and confidently with other stakeholders engaged in the exit process. In turn, this will lead to securing better deals for the UK, both during the EU exit process and in the formation of new international partnerships. This entails learning about the aspects of UK policy that will be most heavily impacted by our withdrawal from the EU. The topic will provide you with an enhanced awareness of the UK’s position on the world stage and a clearer perspective on the opportunities presented as a consequence of the UK operating outside the EU system.

Learning outcomes
By completing this topic, you will:
● be able to support the provision of advice relating to exiting the EU and the development and implementation of new partnerships
● be more confident in evaluating the EU’s involvement in your department’s priority policy areas and the impact of any EU exit decisions
● have a fuller appreciation of the UK’s EU exit agenda, allowing you to help better represent and safeguard the UK’s best interests at home and abroad
