“Europe, endless” – Crossing Boundaries between Fiction and Literary Criticism in the 21st Century

Wednesday 6 March
6:30pm
UCL Haldane Room
Wilkins Building
Gower Street WC1E 6BT

The UCL Department of German is continuing its successful series of guest talks and lectures with a reading by German writers Daniela Dröscher (Berlin) and Andreas Martin Widmann (UCL).

“Europe, endless” brings together representatives from various academic fields and professions to discuss their work within the context of geographical, disciplinary and intellectual boundaries.

Daniela Dröscher’s latest novel “Pola” was published in 2012. “Pola” imagines a period in the life of Polish-born actress Pola Negri, former lover of Charlie Chaplin and Rudolph Valentino, when she returns from Hollywood to Europe on the eve of World War II to make a film in Germany that’s intended to save her career.

Andreas Martin Widmann has published an academic book on counterfactual historical novels in 2009 and, last year, his first novel “Die Glücksparade” – a story about a boy whose world is falling apart after his father moves the family into a caravan on a run down camping site. Andreas Martin Widmann joined UCL as DAAD-Lektor in 2012.

The reading is in German.

It will be followed by a drinks reception.

All welcome!
