Event description


The aim of this workshop is to bring polar bear keepers and managers together, facilitating the advancement of husbandry training to improve polar bear welfare and conservation research. Over the two and a half days we will cover operant conditioning terms and concepts, basic and advanced training methods, behaviour and management problem solving, ex situ and in situ conservation research, medical training and prioritising individual training needs. The workshop will consist of presentations, videos, open discussions and practical sessions with the polar bears at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Full agenda will be released at a later date.

How to get to Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Using Satellite Navigation - Enter Post Code DN4 6TB and not the Postal Address DN3 3NH. The entrance to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park is new The Post Code DN4 6TB will direct you to the established roads opposite the new entrance. Once you reach the destination please follow the signs directing you to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Car Park. From the A1: Join the M18 at Junction 35 and follow the instructions below From the M1: Join the M18 at Junction 32 and follow the instructions below Leave the M18 at Junction 3 and take the A6182, Follow until you pass the Lakeside Village on your left. At the next roundabout, follow the road around to the right on to Lakeside Boulevard. Follow the road around the lake, you will pass the ASDA Superstore on your left and the Dome Leisure Complex on your right. Turn right at the roundabout onto the A638 Bawtry Rd. Continue along Bawtry Rd until you see the brown tourist sign directing you to turn left along Warning Tongue Lane. The entrance to the park is just over the bridge on your right.


As Doncaster is a major railway station on the East Coast Main Line, there is a frequent rail service to the town, the park is approx. 5 miles from the station, The Crown Hotel is 9 miles away and Mount Pleasant is 6 miles. Doncaster Railway Station, Station Court, Doncaster, DN1 1PE


Taxis are usually available at the taxi rank, located directly outside the station.
