Event Details

EVELYN is a deeply personal film from Academy Award® winning filmmakers of THE WHITE HELMETS and VIRUNGA.  It is the story of how a family survives the unthinkable.

Fourteen years after the suicide of their son and brother, Evelyn, the family decide to walk the length of the UK and try to talk about him - something they had failed to do in over a decade.

This poetic feature documentary explores the fabric of grief and the longevity of love. Part quest film, part road-trip, part memoir, EVELYN is an exposition of the taboos of mental health and male emotion, and a tribute to our times.

EVELYN approaches the subject of suicide through the eyes of the friends and family impacted. After the death of his brother younger, Evelyn, director Orlando von Einsiedel could barely even say his name. The process of making this film - walking and talking about Evelyn - enabled Orlando and his family to address this painful past, and begin to heal.

Maytree - A Sanctury for the Suicidal

Hogan Lovells is supporting the Maytree Respite Centre as one of its 2019 charity partners; we would like to give you the opportunity to make a donation to Maytree and you can do so by adding a donation when booking. Maytree is a registered charity supporting people in suicidal crisis in a non-medical setting; it is the only place of its kind in the UK and fills a gap in services, between the medical support of the NHS and the helplines and drop-in centres of the voluntary sector. Maytree offer a free 4-night/5-day stay, and the opportunity to be befriended and heard in complete confidence, without judgement and with compassion and warmth. Find out more at

City Mental Health Alliance

Everyone has mental health in the same way as everyone has physical health. The focus of the City Mental Health Alliance is on supporting all City workers to achieve their full potential, for themselves, their families, their communities and their employers.

The CMHA believe business can take a leading role in building on the wave of change in society that is making mental health a subject that everyone can talk about without fear.

The City Mental Health Alliance’s vision is to help people at all levels in the City of London talk about mental health without fear of stigma. We wish for mental health to be recognised as a boardroom issue and considered essential to maximise business performance, critical to managing business risk and vital to safeguarding organisations’ people responsibilities. We believe that prevention should be recognised as equally as important as treatment to address mental health problems.

The City Mental Health Alliance is a collaborative venture founded by City businesses. Championed by senior leaders, the Alliance is business led and expert guided and aims to create a culture of good mental health for City workers, share best practice and increase mental health understanding.
