Experience a drawing class like no other.

These evening drawing sessions, broadcast live from the Royal Drawing School studios, are an opportunity for students to experience the dynamic and dramatic possibilities of the life room from home. Join students online from across the globe to draw from the model, theatrical sets, dancers, and more, with something new each week. Using a range of drawing practices, our expert tutors will guide you through a series of exercises over the course of each session.

Join us for an online two-hour life drawing session that captures the movement, rhythm, and energy of the party scene. Working with coloured paper and materials, students will explore dynamic compositions inspired by dance, atmosphere, and interaction.

Taking inspiration from artists including Toulouse-Lautrec, Denzel Forrester, Doron Langberg, Christina Kimeze, and Auguste Rodin, this class invites you to experiment with colour, rhythm, and repetition. Expect a playful, expressive set-up, with technology used to create repeated figures and an elaborate scene to draw from.

Guided by tutor Katy Papineau, students will explore how to draw movement in space, using expressive mark-making and tonal contrast to capture fleeting gestures and vivid environments. All levels welcome.

Suggested Materials:

  • Coloured paper, or paper prepared with coloured grounds (a variety of warm, cool, dark and light colours), using either acrylic paint or gouache.
  • Colour materials of your choice: soft pastels, oil pastels, gouache or watercolour (or a combination). Make sure you have a good range of colours.
  • Paper in various sizes - we suggest between A4 - A2.

Frequently asked questions

Q. What do I need to join an online course?

All you need is a computer, laptop or tablet that has a webcam and speaker, a connection to the internet and some space and materials for drawing comfortably. The courses are taught using Zoom, and the link can be accessed in the Eventbrite confirmation email after purchase.

Q. If I miss a class, can I watch a recorded version?

Unfortunately not. Our online classes are taught live at scheduled times (GMT). The sessions are reliant on live interaction, much like being in a physical drawing workshop.

Q. How do I join the Zoom class?

You will need to download Zoom onto your computer or laptop. The Zoom link is available in your Eventbrite ticket after the purchase. Please join the meeting promptly at the start time of your class.

Q. I missed a class. Can I get a refund?

No refund is available once the course has started. If cancelling before the beginning of the relevant term/class, a 50% refund can be arranged. The School is under no obligation to provide an additional class if a student misses one. We are unable to transfer courses to a following term.

Q. Do you have a safeguarding policy?

We do. The School reserves the right to deny booking any student or to remove any student immediately from a course in line with the School's Safeguarding Policy. In the instance that a student is removed from a course a refund for remaining sessions will be issued.

Q. Can I record the class or get the recording from you?

In line with the School’s online safeguarding policy, students are not permitted to take pictures or record any online broadcast. This is to protect our community. Recordings of the sessions will not be made available to students after the live broadcast, even if a student misses a class.
