Experience our varied range of exciting drawing sessions via live-streaming technology for an in-studio feel online. Broadcast live from the RDS studios, these digital sessions allow our tutors to utilise the life room in new, creative ways to develop unique drawing tuition with engaging perspectives, dynamic lighting setups and on-screen support only possible online.
With no need to commit to a whole day or a series of weeks you can drop-in to our tutor-guided one-hour lunchtime and two-hour evening drawing classes to support your art practice or studies, try out the RDS drawing experience, unwind, and expand your vocabulary of drawing skills and ideas using our specialist digital technology.
Our two-hour evening drawing sessions, broadcast live from the RDS studios, are an opportunity for students to experience the dynamic and dramatic possibilities of the life room from home. Join students online from across the globe to draw from epic sets, dancers, musicians and more, with something new each week. Using a range of drawing practices, our expert tutors will guide you through a series of exercises over the course of each session.
This six session pass will give you access to all of the Evening Life Drawing sessions in the Summer Term all at a 10% discount. Outlines of the sessions are below.

Tuesday 28 May 18.30 - 20.30 - Observation & Imagination
In this two-hour life drawing session we will explore how to push beyond drawing from observation, into a more imaginative realm.
Tutor, Elizabeth McCarten, will be working with a model in the studio introducing different drawing exercises that will encourage students to work in a more experimental and explorative way. Inspiration will also be drawn from other artists with the aim of aiding students on a journey towards a more personal and creative response to observational life drawing.
Tuesday 4 June 18.30 - 20.30 - Life Drawing in Colour - Chromatics
In this two-hour life drawing session, tutor Mark Cazalet will focus on an important but frequently missed aspect of colour; the significance of our application of colour as a saturated or transparent surface, and the rich potential of mixing these two opposing visual effects.
We will work in collaboration with a dynamic model, varied coloured settings and differing camera angles to stimulate our visual responses.
Tuesday 11 June 18.30 - 20.30 - Drawing the Unexpected
Enter the world of the unexpected. In this two-hour life drawing session, the life room is transformed with a series of drawing exercises that will celebrate what a life drawing studio can be. Be prepared for movement, music, narratives and creative use of combinations of media and techniques.
Tuesday 18 June 18.30 - 20.30 - Notes from the Glasshouse

This session will offer an opportunity to engage closely with the nature, drawing from the ephemeral world of plants and flowers as well as the deep layers of time in fossils and minerals. Looking through the lenses of artists, scientists, architects and other thinkers, we will consider how slow looking and the idea of time might influences our drawings, and think about how objects in nature can be both witnesses and sources of inspiration.
Tuesday 25 June 18.30 - 20.30 - Experimental Printmaking at Home
In this session we will be studying the life model while exploring the versatile process of monotype printmaking. We will be creating a dialogue between drawing and printmaking, improvising and experimenting with how character and atmosphere, tone and colour can be developed. Practical demonstrations will take you through how approaches to printmaking can be adapted and improvised at home.
You’ll need a few oil pastels to get the most out of this session and basic printmaking equipment such as a roller and relief printmaking ink will be useful but not essential!
This session is suitable for beginners and those with more experience alike. It is ideal for those looking to expand their life-drawing practice into further mediums.
Tuesday 2 July 18.30 - 20.30 - Introduction to Anatomy
In this two-hour life drawing session we will concentrate on the structure of the body with the intention of developing our understanding of how the mechanics of the human form connect and interact.
Through looking at anatomical reference drawings, tutor Marcus Cornish will demonstrate how these internal systems manifest themselves on the surface of the body, and how an understanding of anatomy can help give life to our drawings.

- These sessions are designed so that students can engage with whatever materials they have to hand: pencil, biro, crayons. Each sessions has a suggested material list that will allow you to get the most out of the classes.

Frequently asked questions
All you need is a computer, laptop or tablet that has a webcam and speaker, a connection to the internet and some space and materials for drawing comfortably. The courses are taught using Zoom, and the link is included in the confirmation email after purchase.
Unfortunately not. Our online classes are taught live at scheduled times (GMT). The ses-sions are reliant on live interaction, much like being in a physical drawing workshop.
You will need to download Zoom onto your computer or laptop. The Zoom link is available in your Eventbrite ticket after the purchase. Please join the meeting promptly at the start time of your class.
No refund is available once the course has started. If cancelling before the beginning of the relevant term/class, a 50% refund can be arranged. The School is under no obligation to provide an additional class if a student misses one. We are unable to transfer courses to a following term.
We do. The School reserves the right to deny booking any student or to remove any student immediately from a course in line with the School's Safeguarding Policy. In the instance that a student is removed from a course a refund for remaining sessions will be issued.
In line with the School’s online safeguarding policy, students are not permitted to take pic-tures or record any online broadcast. This is to protect our community. Recordings of the sessions will not be made available to students after the live broadcast, even if a student misses a class.
