Evening Talk: Ryan Mosley

Ryan Mosley's richly imaginative canvases have made him one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary figurative art. His paintings create characters that occupy social spaces or appear alone in the landscape. The scenarios evoked in these works simultaneously feel familiar but also out of kilter, leaving space for the viewer to imagine – who are they, where are they, and what happens next?

After studying at the University of Huddersfield and completing an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art in London, Ryan Mosley quickly garnered international attention. He has held solo exhibitions at prominent venues including Tim Van Laere Gallery in Antwerp, Alison Jacques Gallery in London, Susanne Vielmetter Projects in Los Angeles, and Galerie EIGEN + ART in Berlin. His work has also featured in significant group exhibitions such as Radical Figures: Painting in the New Millennium at Whitechapel Gallery (2020) and Newspeak: British Art Now at the Saatchi Gallery (2009–11). Mosley’s paintings are now part of major collections including the Arts Council Collection (UK), the Saatchi Collection, and the Milwaukee Art Museum.

This talk forms part of the programme of events complementing the exhibition When the Day is Done New Paintings by Ryan Mosley, at the Graves Gallery from 26 February until 4 July.
