EVENT POSTPONED ++++++ EVENT POSTPONED ++++++ EVENT POSTPONED ++++++

East Suffolk Council is pleased to host a special one day training course for local authority enforcement officers, designed to cover the enforcement of imported food legislation by inland food authorities, at our offices in Melton near Woodbridge.

Parking is available on site but a rail service, with connections from Ipswich and Lowestoft is within a few minutes walk.

The course will be practical in its application and will include

  • What foods (and non-foods) are subject to checks – including products of animal origin, products non of animal origin
  • An awareness of checks carried out at the ports
  • Documentation which should be seen with imported foods at inland authorities – what to look for and where
  • Investigation of queries – sources of further information and evidence
  • What action can be taken including notices to be used
  • What could local authorities do to ensure that their efforts are recognised – inspection forms, action codes and reporting
  • How local authorities could help feed into the process of inland enforcement of imported foods including sampling and surveillance
  • How this may be affected post any Brexit
  • Practical Examples – spotting the red flags.

This course was carried out in Cumbria and an earlier course (without the practical samples) at Great Yarmouth and was very well received. Feedback suggested that the combination of theory, practical advice and guidance and the practice in spotting potential and actual issues was very helpful for officers and increased confidence in dealing with imported foods inland.
