Aims -

To explore the importance of a practitioners ability to build a trusting and respectful relationship with children and young people, which goes beyond listening and recording the child’s views, to critically reflecting on what the child is trying to communicate through their behaviours, interactions and physical presentation.

Explore and identify a variety of approaches and tools to support this process

Biographies

Jeff Fairfield-Read

Jeff Fairfield-Read is a Development Specialist within Integrated Workforce Development Team (IWDT), and has worked for Nottingham City Council for over 22 years. Prior to joining the Nottingham City Council, he worked within the Voluntary Sector, Managing various Supported Housing Projects for 16 to 25 Year Olds.

He started his career in Local Government within Residential Services progressing to the Role of Deputy Manager, before joining the Integrated Workforce Development Team.

Latterly Jeff has also taken on the role of Lead Broker for identifying and securing Student Placements across the Authority for, Nottingham University, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Derby.

Jane Hodgson

Jane Hodgson is an Assistant Unit Manager at Crocus Fields a Short Breaks Unit in The Meadows. She was appointed to this post in August 2019, following six years working as a Casual Worker whilst lecturing

Jane lectured at Nottingham College (previously know as South Notts College / Central College) for 22 years specialising in Early Years and Health & Social Care programmes, as well as delivering on the teacher training programme. Jane taught on site at College, within secondary schools and at a Prison and has recently delivered some lectures at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln.

Jane enjoys the variety her role brings; she is passionate about young people feeling safe and cared for. She strongly believes that learning is continuous
