About this event

Studio 12 is honoured to present Every second that I’m alive by Joanna Jones.

Born in 1945 Jones has painted with her body for 41 years. In November 2023, she was diagnosed with chronic arthritis, following Covid-19, that obstructed her movement and ability to paint. Unable to move, she turned inward and began a process of self-rediscovery.

Jones couldn’t paint anymore but she could speak- she began recording voicenotes to herself, never intended to be shared with the public.

They are the diary of a woman with an unquenchable life force.

Today, moving again, Jones is back to making new work for a new time; Every second that I'm alive is a multidisciplinary exhibition featuring some of the first paintings Jones made with her whole body, alongside new work on glass and a sound score of her voicenotes.

Join us for the private view of Every second that I'm alive by the extraordinary Joanna Jones, coinciding with her 80th birthday.
