Review:
People will tell you that you’re more likely to die in a car than an aircraft, but while there are figures for deaths on roads and in airplanes, there is no measure for air quality on board or the number of passengers getting sick from it. In this documentary, Captain Tristan Loraine sets out to change that, as he brings us on board his ongoing campaign to recognise and prevent toxic fumes on aircraft.
Credited with causing vomiting, loss of limb control, and other neurological effects in the air, a chemical from the engine oil can also cause long-term health issues including cancer, according to these interviewees. After his own experiences in the air - and the loss of his fellow pilot to a brain tumour - Loraine left British Airways and dedicated his life to telling the story that the aviation industry doesn’t want you to hear.
Enjoying its world premiere at this year’s Raindance, this film is the result of over eighteen years’ research by Loraine, who retrained as a director before founding an award-winning production company. Revealing apparent cover-ups and head-spinning facts, this is a must watch for anyone who flies frequently or cares about someone who does. You'll never breathe easy on an airplane again. / Review by Abi Smith
