'Everyone’s talking about… Sustainable Finance’. Is ESG leading to a rewiring of finance or is it all just greenwashing? Join a debate with Daniel Hanna, Global Head of Sustainable Finance at Standard Chartered and LBS alumni.

About our Speaker:

Daniel is the Global Head of Sustainable Finance for Standard Chartered Bank. Daniel established sustainable finance at Standard Chartered and grew it from an intern into a global team that mobilized USD 22bn in green and transition finance in 2021, with an asset base of USD 9.2bn, seventy percent focused on low income countries, and launched 26 new sustainable finance products. Standard Chartered was ranked number 1 in green loans globally and JLM on over a third of all sustainable bonds in Asia in 2021. He, and his team, have created several innovative financing transactions including the world’s first blue bond, the first sustainable deposit, the first sustainable trade product and the first climate transition bond for an Airline. Standard Chartered was awarded Best Bank for Sustainable Finance by Global Finance in 2019.

Daniel is also responsible for Standard Chartered’s Environmental and Social Risk Management team and helped develop Standard Chartered’s 2050 Net Zero commitment and 2030 interim targets for financed emissions. Daniel also set up and ran Standard Chartered’s USD 1bn non-profit fund to finance the fight against COVID19 and created, with the UK’s CDC, the post-Ebola Reconstruction Facility for Sierra Leone. Daniel is a Steering Group member of UNDP’s SDG Impact Group and the UN’s Global Investors Alliance for Sustainable Development. Daniel is also a board member of the African Union’s development finance institution, Afreximbank
