• Improve method for selecting the most suited block shade and translucency for the given clinical situation to eliminate shade errors.

• Increased understanding of the characterisation materials, their indications and protocol for use based on the manufacturers guidelines.

• Gain an understanding of how to improve the surface aesthetics with rotary instruments to increase the aesthetic outcome for the patient.

• Discuss the suitable options for post treatment prior to cementation and the most suited cementation options for the completed restoration.

• Raise awareness of the benefits to the patient of treatments options to maintain the fixed restorative.

- To convey the different materials available, highlighting the features and benefits of the available dental materials fabricated from PMMA, Composite, Glass and oxide ceramics.

- To highlight the indications and contraindications of each of the listed materials.

- To increase the participants understanding of the limitations of the materials to avoid errors in manufacture.

- Encourage participants to check the placement of the restoration, observing good fit and function to ensure patient satisfaction.

- Introduce rotary burs to improve the aesthetics and function of composite and all-ceramic restorations in accordance with the prescribed treatment plan and patients acceptance.

- How to fix the restoration to the firing pin with auxiliary pastes and understand the need to support the fabricated restoration to avoid errors.

- Observe post fabrication process, to remove remnants of the auxiliary firing pastes to avoid contamination of the etching and cementation of the restoration.

- Inform participants of the manufacturer's guidelines for selecting the appropriate pre-treatment method of the restoration prior to cementation to increase successful placement into the oral environment.

- Raise awareness of long-term maintenance program with the introduction of therapeutic and topical oral gels and varnishes, to ensure longevity of the manufactured restoration.

Learning Outcomes:

The tutor will impart information to participants to improve their knowledge of the correct production protocols of dental restorations fabricated with a range of materials including PMMA, Composite, Glass Ceramic and Oxide Ceramics. Furthermore to increase participants understanding of how to use rotary instruments and external glazes, shades and stains to monolithic dental restorations to improve the aesthetic outcome. All methods and techniques work to the tutors experience and consider the manufacturers guidelines.
