Event description
Join Jim Otieno-Hall for this 4-part poetry course aimed at writers of all experience and ability levels!

About this Event

In this four-week course, we will unpack, through poetry, the question of what it means to be alive in 2021. How to find your voice amidst the swirl of headlines, updates, feeds? Write your way through the ‘everything’ of it, curating poems that become places to feel grounded, possible, seen?

Through an initial exploration of what matters to you, and why, Jim will offer flexible writing exercises and prompts, enabling self-exploration, encouraging creative confidence.

From leaning into the urgency of ‘now’ leading to surprising discoveries, to how the 2AM Tweet can exist alongside frost on a wing mirror within a poem, this course will give your writing room to let everything in, then choose what to keep, what to discard.

As suitable for previously published writers, as those who have yet to pick up a pen.

Throughout this 4-part course, you will...

  • Explore your response to what you feel and think during the current times we are living in, translating that energy into poems you can be proud of
  • Write poems centred around what matters to you, receiving ongoing, generous feedback throughout
  • Unpack the ‘DNA’ that makes up your experience of moving through the world, using it to anchor what you would like to explore, both on and off the page
  • Gain a deeper understanding of what can ‘belong’ in the world of a poem
  • Be introduced to a diverse selection of contemporary poetry, that reflects the times we are living in, whilst being in conversation with what came before
  • Feel encouraged, supported, and valued as part of a welcoming, enjoyable space, that will be sensitive to any needs you may have

The course aims to welcome all experience and ability levels, and have each participant leave with a greater sense of possibility and permission, around what a poem can be, or become.
