Event description

Description

… and that’s not a cliché, because we have a fabulous trio of widely-acclaimed and award-winning writers, all on the same day! This is a rare opportunity to meet Rosemary Hayes, many of whose books for young adults have won or been shortlisted for awards, Pippa Goodhart, million-seller author of the You Choose books and Winnie the Witch series and writer and illustrator Gillian McClure, Royal Literary Fund Fellow and Highly Commended in the Kate Greenaway medal.

This unique course will cater for potential writers of all types of children’s fiction books from picture books for the very young to angsty teenage novels. Jointly, the authors will deliver a talk on what makes a standout children’s book in the age group for whom they write and talk about their own journeys to publication. This will be followed by a Q and A session and then the authors will set up individual ‘surgeries’ in separate rooms in the Retreat so you can pick their brains on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, depending on numbers, on how to develop your own ideas and how to approach publishers or agents. Or, indeed, on any other writing related issue.

You are invited to send in advance a sample of your writing that you’d like to discuss with one of the tutors. A picture book text, or a synopsis and opening page of a MG or YA novel needs to be sent a week before the workshop date.

Course starts at 10am but coffee will be served from 930am. Participants for this course are strictly limited to ten.
