Event description

Description

Do you ever feel frustrated when students demand to be spoon-fed information? Have your students hit the "year 12 wall"? Do you wish your students could do more to drive their own learning?

In this one-day workshop for teachers, tutors and school/college leaders, you will learn practical strategies for unlocking the power of independent learning in your students. The strategies shared will focus on three key areas for promoting independent learning:

  • Metacognition (reflecting on learning)

  • Oracy (developing effective speaking and listening skills)

  • Self-regulation (enabling students to take ownership over the learning process)

Not only are these strategies supported by the research literature, but we are experienced at putting them into action - and achieving great results! A five-year evaluation of our independent learning curriculum by researchers from the University of Cambridge found that the programme led to significantly improved subject learning, and a significant closing of the gap between Pupil Premium students and their peers (Mannion & Mercer, 2016).

Come along to find out how to unlock the power of independent learning!

NB we plan to film parts of this workshop for promotional purposes. If you would prefer not to take part in filming, please let us know. Also, if you have any other questions, please contact us here. Many thanks!
