Evidence from new AI driven smoking cessation approach
Overview
Medway, Wolverhampton, East Sussex, Wigan and Worcestershire have all become the first local authorities to utilise Quit Coach, an AI-driven WhatsApp tool, to support smokers with trusted, evidence-based guidance. The tool was initially co-designed with Public Health teams from Medway Council to provide both structured programmes and 24/7 on-demand advice, helping reach a broad and diverse population.
A key feature of Quit Coach is the way it captures data. Every conversation, quit attempt and engagement metric is logged in real-time dashboards, allowing public health teams to monitor impact, evaluate outcomes and understand cost-effectiveness. This creates a valuable evidence base to assess how AI can be embedded safely and effectively into local tobacco control services.
Early indications suggest strong engagement and the potential for a favourable cost per quitter, offering an important opportunity to reshape delivery at scale. By the time of this webinar, Medway, Wolverhampton and East Sussex will all be live, so we will use this session to share early findings and insights from these areas, as well as the technical approach, marketing and testing and implementation process.
The session will also explore the emerging opportunities for expanding this AI-driven tool into other areas of public health.
This session is designed exclusively for public health, health, and local government colleagues, and will be recorded, so even if you can’t make it, please register and we will share the recording afterwards.
