Evolving with Integrity: BAMBA’s Updated Professional Framework
Overview
Following the Annual Gathering of Affiliate Teacher Training Organisations and Members in 2025, we’re delighted to share an important update to BAMBA’s approach to Professional Standards and Good Practice Guidelines (GPGs), a framework that safeguards the integrity, safety, and quality of mindfulness teaching while embracing inclusivity and contemplative traditions from which mindfulness has grown.
This review has been a collaborative journey. Over recent months, BAMBA worked closely with affiliate organisations, members, and the wider field to ensure these updates reflect shared wisdom and lived experience. Through open dialogue, consultation, and feedback, we’ve revised and shaped the framework that continues to honour tradition while responding to the realities of contemporary teaching.
This process reflects our commitment to listening deeply, acting transparently, and supporting the community we serve. These updates are not something BAMBA is doing to the field, they are something we have done together, guided by care, integrity, and responsiveness.
Mindfulness teaching continues to evolve across diverse contexts. Our revisions reflect current best practice, broadening access, and honouring the contemplative roots of mindfulness. These updates ensure that BAMBA remains responsive, inclusive, and committed to excellence.
What’s Changing
Introducing Professional Standards:
What the expectations are of those wishing to register or remain with BAMBA (clarifying the position of quality standards through the legacy of the GPGs) through four key principles which remain unchanged:
- Commitment to personal practice
- Reflective teaching support (commonly supervision)
- Annual engagement in extended practice (commonly retreat attendance)
- Ongoing learning and CPD
Revised Good Practice Guidelines:
How those seeking membership can approach meeting professional standards through various methods and mechanisms. The revised GPGs provide:
- An ethical, skilful, and inclusive approach
- Adaptability for diverse contexts
- Innovative equivalence for creative pathways
