Event description

Description

An afternoon HackJam for teachers, friends & families who share an interest in Computer Science

During this afternoon HackJam event participants will collaborate together on creative solutions to interesting problems while discovering the fun, excitement and power of computer science in a public space (the Level 3 Picnic Area). This event isn't so much about coding, more about being creative, imaginative, resourceful and acting on your initiative.

Please note: While this event is suitable for all ages, children must be supervised by an adult at all times. This is a BYOD event, Bring Your Own Device, eg. fully charged laptop, mobile device, tablet or share a device. It's a good idea to bring a small supply of card/paper and some simple stationery items like pens. The picnic area is likely to be extremely busy, noisy and full during our session.

Programme:

We will be using the Picnic Area on Level 3 as our base, close to the Shake Bar.

  • 12.30-1.00pm Optional picnic lunch - BYOP, "Bring Your Own Picnic" or purchase lunch from Science Museum outlets.
  • 1.00-1.30pm Introduction - introduction to The HackJam Challenge, a team-based problem solving activity, designing and prototyping a solution that links to exhibits and objects on display at the Science Museum
  • 1.30pm-4.00pm HackJamming - Working in teams to develop solutions
  • 4.00-4.30pm Show & tell - share your completed solutions with the other HackJammers
  • 4.30pm - Close

We also planning a morning visit early on the same day to 'Top Secret' planned for an older audience, more details TBC.
