Event description

Description

A little like a school trip, this is a social gathering for a group of teachers/non-teachers with a common interest in STEM, Computer Science and Computing education (5-18 years) within a public event. By joining our monthly meetup, you will be able to indulge your interests and passion, forge friendships with others, and gain some inspiration, ideas & resources for activities to use with your classes or community.

This month's Science Museum theme: Blood and Revolution.

Programme:

  • 4.00-6.45pm Optional pre-meet in South Kensington - details will be sent in the days before
  • 6.45-7.15pm Meet & greet in the Energy Cafe (Level 0, next to the gift shop) this is where we'll plan our itinerary for the evening as well as sharing news of events, projects, resources that support the teaching of #Computing in school and #DigitalMaking. It provides a chance for you to grab a drink or byte to eat. If you have something interesting to share, please bring it with you - but it will need to pass the security checks at the entrance!
  • 7.15-9.00pm Walkabout - We'll wander around together, exploring the different talks, activities and demonstrations throughout the evening. If you refer to the programme released a day or two beforehand on the Science Museum website, you'll be able to see what's on offer and help us plan our itinerary for the evening. Sometimes when the theme of the evening does not have strong links to Computing, we plan our own activities.
  • 9pm+ Departure - the Science Museum remains open until 9.45pm, but choose to leave around 9pm or earlier, particularly when it's a school day the following day. So stay for as little or long as you wish.

Important: This is an 18+ only event and is independently organised by Alan O'Donohoe of exa.foundation and friends. The event is neither organised, nor endorsed by the Science Museum. On the last Wednesday of every month (except December), the Science Museum closes at 6pm and then re-opens again from 6.45pm until 10:00pm for "Lates", an evening packed full of talks, demonstrations and hands-on activities. If you arrive before doors open at 6.45pm, prepare to join the lengthy queue outside on Exhibition Road.

Please support the Science Museum: Either make a donation here, when you arrive, or purchase something from the gift shop or cafes during the evening to support the work of the Science Museum.

Registration: While you might choose to attend this event without registering, there is always a risk that if we need to change venue, date, postpone etc. and you won't be kept informed. So please do register and check your inbox for the confirmation email from orders@eventbrite.com and updates via noreply@eventbrite.com. It's not a problem if you register with the intention of attending but have to change your plans at the last-minute.

Spread the word: Help support this event by promoting it to friends and colleagues you think would enjoy attending. Simply use the sharing icons below this description to easily tell others about the event through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or by emailing a link.

Can't attend? Don't be disappointed if you can't make this event, there'll be plenty of opportunities in the future. We repeat this on the last Weds of every month except December. Maybe you could host something similar in your school/town without too much fuss or organisation.
