Event description

Description

OBJECTIVES:

  • Improve your own confidence and expertise at solving problems with computational thinking, algorithm design and programming
  • Discover highly practical approaches and strategies you can use to inspire, engage and support your own Computing classes
  • Meet other Computing teachers & educators to learn from each other's experiences

Aims: This is an adult-only event intended to support Computing teachers (and others) with their own professional development. You will meet other like-minded individuals in an accessible, safe, relaxed environment in which you can comfortably develop your own confidence with programming, computational thinking, algorithms, problem solving as well as your subject expertise while learning from others.

Participants will develop solutions to a set of graduated programming challenges pitched to suit a variety of background and experience levels whether you consider yourself a complete beginner or expert. The challenges are designed to encompass a very wide range of abilities and experiences from Key Stage 2 to A Level as a guide.

Activities will include pair-programming, collaborative problem-solving, algorithm design, computational thinking, text-based programming, code-sharing, debugging and differentiation strategies as well as informal group discussions. Equipment: You are recommended to bring your own fully-charged laptop and charger. Netbooks can be loaned for the event through prior arrangement with the event organiser (at least 48 hours in advance).

Venue: This event takes place in the lounge area of a hotel.
