Event description

Description

exabytes is a fantastic, expert-led event that’s all about supporting schools to deliver an inspiring & engaging Computing curriculum!

On Friday June 28th, we’re hosting #exabytes19, our fourth annual exabytes conference for teachers and educators! Every year our conference helps teachers discover effective new classroom approaches to using technology, explore inspiring hands-on workshops and develop their confidence teaching Computing while meeting peers from around the country (in a luxurious, accessible venue). #exabytes19 is set to be a practical, genuinely useful and engaging day out for teachers at any level.

Keynotes:

  • Dr Sue Sentance, Chief Learning Officer, Raspberry Pi Foundation and Visiting Fellow at King's College London. Sue will discuss what we have learned about computing education in the classroom in recent years, both from research studies and from experienced and enthusiastic practitioners, with her talk "Teaching strategies for Computing"
  • Dr Hannah Dee, Senior Lecturer in Computer Science, Aberystwyth University. Hannah will help us to understand "Why Ada was awesome: Lady Lovelace and her contributions to computing".

Breakout sessions (draft):

  • Suitable for teachers of all phases: Getting your whole staff onboard with Computing. Use Minecraft, Microbits and Neopixels to develop creativity in writing. Transition from block based to text based programming. Augmented reality and virtual reality. Games development.
  • Primary Computing: Transitioning from Primary ICT to Computing. Code Club projects. Enriching the curriculum through image, video & animation. Cross Curricular Computing. Exploring Mathematics through programming. Assessing Computing and ICT skills. Teach Computing through creativity and play
  • Secondary Computing: A model for a computing curriculum. Game design with PyGame Zero. Interplanetary coding in action. Escape room inspired lessons. Teaching Computer Science with non-specialist teachers.

"Exabytes is certainly one of the best Computing education conferences that there is...bringing together some of the leading practitioners in this domain one single one-day conference." - Miles Berry

"A lovely and brilliant place to network. There's so much to see and so much to do" - Jessie Harris

A few key things make our exabytes conferences stand out from other conferences for teachers, along with a fantastic programme led by experts and classroom practitioners, there are no sales pitches or commercial content. You will be able to choose from a variety of sessions on offer, each one providing you with interesting insights and introducing you to engaging and inspiring approaches, strategies and resources you can use in your own school.

We’re absolutely committed to delivering value for money. Tickets cost just £49 + VAT (even less if you’re an Exa Customer) and include all sessions, a high quality lunch and refreshments. The conference operates on a non-profit basis.
