Event description

Description

We are very excited to have Lia Border, an experienced and respected presenter for National PATOSS, coming to run a session for our local group. It gives 3 hours SASC accredited training.

This bespoke session provides an opportunity for those involved in gathering evidence and assessing for Exam Access Arrangements to gain or refresh their knowledge of the assessment and reporting procedures for Access Arrangements in GCSEs and GCEs for learners with SpLD.

The half-day course is suitable for those new to assessment for access arrangements as well as experienced assessors who wish to refresh and update their knowledge on meeting the needs of learners with SpLD in examinations.

  • Explore changes to the current academic year’s JCQ Regulations for Access Arrangements at GCSE and GCE levels

  • Investigate gathering evidence from both the assessment and the centre to fulfil the requirements for the various access arrangements

  • Review the selection of reliable, valid and up-to-date assessment tools to determine appropriate access arrangements to meet individual needs

  • Consider best practice in reporting outcomes to comply with JCQ regulations, including JCQ Form 8 and essential record keeping systems

The course will discuss current regulations relating to GCSE and GCE qualifications. In this context, it aims to develop delegates’ knowledge of standardised assessment for access arrangement, the selection of appropriate tests to establish individual needs and the collating and reporting of learner evidence.

The JCQ update and related handouts have been written and provided by Nick Lait, Head of JCQ Examination Services.

Delegates are asked to bring a copy of the JCQ Guidelines for 2017/2018, if available.

Our presenter, Lia Border, has had a varied career within the specialisms of SpLD. She holds an OCR Diploma and an assessment practising certificate and regularly assesses for access arrangements and DSA applications. As well as working as a freelance specialist teacher and assessor, Lia is the PATOSS Professional Practice Advisor; this role includes coordinating the PATOSS post-graduate module, mentoring programme and professional practice community forum.

The event will be suitable for assessors (new and experienced) and SENCos. Please feel free to spread the word.

Doors open for registration and coffee at 9 a.m. ready for the event to start at 9.30 a.m.

There will be a refreshment break mid morning and the event will finish at 1.30 p.m.
