Event description

Description

For one last time let's dance on the RENO dancefloor

The Reno was a legendary cellar club on the corner of Moss Lane East and Princess Rd, Moss Side. A haven for 'half-caste', born in the 50s, when it was not the done thing for a black man to shag a white woman.

Muhhamad Ali, Bob Marley, Frankie Beverley visited. Clive Lloyd, Mick Hucknall, Alex Higgins were regulars. The Hacienda's Tony Wilson held his stag do down there. Heyday 1971 to 1981. Demolished 1986.

Funded by Art's Council England, on www.thereno.live I have collected 4 seasons of Reno Memoirs. Go visit. Watch. Comment. All Mancunians have a Reno story. Become part of our archive.

9th to 27th of October. Currently we are actually excavating the Reno. Come and dig. 10 till 4 weekdays.

28th of October. A free open day 12-7pm: enter the Reno's historical remains. Step on the Reno dancefloor.

28th of October. You're not gonna wanna go home are you? Picture it now: that shit feeling when you're directed off site at 7pm. Buy a ticket to party. 9pm till we've had enough. Bring your own booze. Marquee so we don't get pissed wet through. Only 500 historic places. Original Reno DJs including legenday Persian playing.

You'd better book now.

Funds raised will cover Reno archive and artefact colonising the Whitworth Art Gallery: 23-11-17. http://www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk/learn/adults/social/thursdaylates/
