Join us to celebrate the creative works of young people who entered the Garganey Trust’s creative writing and photography competition 2020, and learn about developments to improve Broomhill Flash Nature Reserve in Wombwell, Barnsley.

Ian McMillian, local poet and broadcaster, will help judge the winners, with prizes being presented by the Lord Mayor of Barnsley. This event will also provide an opportunity for the local community to meet people from the Garganey Trust and find out about the work we do in the local area.

What the day involves

11am - 2pm: Refreshments and a chance to view the exhibition, drop in at any time

12pm - 2pm: Optional guided walk - An expert-led guided walk from Darfield to Broomhill Flash Nature Reserve and back.

A 3 mile walk to discover Broomhill Flash Nature Reserve, which was the theme of the competition. During the walk you will also find out about the work that the Garganey Trust do in the local area: community engagement work, the creation and management of habitats for wetland and farmland wildlife, sustainable farming techniques and flood alleviation for the local community. Other heritage topics will be explored: the archaeology of the reserve, its local history and how it has changed over time.

2.30pm: The competition winners will be announced and prizes presented.

3pm - 4pm: Buffet and refreshments
