Time Travellers to Crop Pickers
A new solo exhibition by Alvin Kofi exploring history, economics and migration through portraiture.
In Time Travelers to Crop Pickers, Alvin Kofi explores the ancient cultures of African and Asia; examining the origins of our foods and the people who sow and harvest them. Through original paintings and beautiful drawings, Kofi uses monotones to reflect the mysteries, magic, creation stories and frailty of culture contrasted against a vibrant backdrop of tropical colours.
Crop Pickers is an exploration of ancient cultures, including Dogon cosmology and our connection to the earth through portraiture. Kofi plays with paint and collage to document the strong and extraordinary women who cultivate our foods. Questions are interwoven within each piece around the challenges we face requiring us to constantly renegotiate our relationship with the environment and the planet.
The show celebrates Kofi’s return to painting with originals and a new set of limited edition prints released to the market.
