It is imperative for the crafts sector to be embedded into the wider community as a tool for building assets and contributing to its well-being. As a result, the stewardship of the crafts sector is not only the practitioners but rather the entire community. The workshop will explore what role the crafts sector can play in developing and promoting the well-being of the community and how.

A new premise for the crafts sector to build greater resilience is for the entire community to take ownership of the sector thereby contributing towards its wellbeing. Hence, when a craft practice contributes to the wellbeing of the community, it will be an asset to the community. As a community asset, the community will naturally safeguard and protect this against external shocks, while re-investing in it to secure its future. Hence, it is imperative for the crafts sector to be embedded into the community as a tool for building community asset, contributing to the community’s well-being. As a result, the stewardship of the crafts sector is not only the practitioners but rather the entire community.

In order for the community to take ownership of the crafts sector, the following questions will be explored during the workshop:

- What roles can the crafts sector play to promote the well-being of the community?

- How can crafts assist in developing the well-being of its community?

- Who can the crafts sector collaborate and partner with to bring about the greater well-being of the community?

- How will the impact of crafts be measured?

- How will crafts be re-capitalised to build resilience and to further contribute to the well-being of the community?
