Description
Experimental Firing - Obvara & Tipi Kiln
Bookings go live 18th November 2019
Bookings close 8th June 2020
A spectacular and exciting residential weekend mastering the art of creating with fire!
Over the course of the weekend we will build and fire a Tipi kiln, made from recycled materials. The Tipi kiln is an experimental kiln and provides an opportunity for participants to experience a live flame firing with the spectacle of firing the kiln at night. The building of the kiln is a completely hands on affair, and everyone will have an opportunity to join in with every aspect of the build. We will unpack the kiln as soon as it has cooled on Sunday morning and then we will move onto Obvara Firing, another experimental firing technique.
Obvara firing, also known as Sourdough firing is an ancient tradition from the Baltic. Sometimes also referred to as Baltic Raku. We will see the pots transformed by being bathed in the Obvara mixture while they are red hot and watch as a palette of natural colours race across their surface before being quenched in water to fix them in place.
Price includes all materials, accommodation and catering.

It is with a very heavy heart that we need to inform you that we have had to make the decision to close the doors to Studio 45 permanently with immediate effect. It was an extremely difficult decision to make but under the current circumstances, trying to continue is just not a viable option.
All workshops and classes have now been cancelled and all particpants refunded.
We want to thank you for being a part of our amazing creative community here at Studio 45 and wish you a wonderful creative future ahead.
